NOMEX Filter Bag

Overview

A filter bag designed for extreme conditions

What is a filter bag?

Filter bags can be the ideal solution for your industrial filtration application needs. They are designed to remove contaminants and debris from liquids and the dirt is caught inside the bag.

Other filter technologies collect the solids on the outside of the device giving them the potential to dislodge into the filter upon removal. Filter bags keep the clean side of the filter that way, The filter bags remove the amount and size of contaminants depends on their specific micron rating.

What is the NOMEX filter bag?

NOMEX filter bag is also called Aramid filter bag. It has the characteristic of heat resistance. When the temperature is at 250℃, the material can stay stable for a long time, so it has strong strength.

The NOMEX needle-punched felt cloth is a filter and insulation material with resistance to high temperatures, which has good physical and chemical compatibility and almost does not burn.

The Brother Filtration Nomex Filter Bag offers micron ratings from 1 to 100 at temperatures up to 200°C, enabling the removal of solid or gelatinous particles during liquid filtration. To decrease fiber migration, the depth loading felt material features a singed finish. Create the ideal felt filter bag configuration for your filtration needs. Different materials of bag rings are also available for customers’ real needs.

With its dimensional stability, the heat shrink ratio of the NOMEX filter bag is 1% degree celsius (only less than 240℃), it is suitable for applications such as thermal power and powder metallurgy.

Also, it has low concentrations of acid and alkali, most hydrocarbons have no effect on it, even if a small amount of fluoride can not significantly erode it. So, it can be applied to asphalt, cement, iron & steel, non-ferrous, lime, drying, and broken stone industry.

Brother Filtration NOMEX Filter Bag is treated by fire at 400℃ to get decomposition and carbonization, the limited oxygen index is 30. This means it won’t burn or combustion.

NOMEX vs PTFE vs Polyester | Which Filter Bag Do You Need?

NOMEX (Meta-Aramid) PTFE Polyester
Continuous Temp 200°C 260°C 120°C
Chemical Resistance Moderate (pH 3–11, hydrocarbons) Excellent (virtually universal) Moderate
Flame Behavior Self-extinguishing (LOI 30) Non-flammable Melts / burns
Dimensional Stability Excellent (<1% shrink below 240°C) Good Moderate
Unit Cost vs. Polyester 2–3× 4–6× Baseline
Best For Cement, steel, power, asphalt, petrochemical (moderate chemistry) Pharma, harsh acid, semiconductor General industrial below 120°C

Quick rule: Choose NOMEX if temperature is 120–200°C and chemistry is moderate (no strong acids, no halogens). Choose PTFE if chemistry is aggressive or temperature exceeds 200°C continuously.

Is NOMEX Right for Your Fluid?

NOMEX is a reliable alkali resistant filter bag and performs well across a range of industrial process chemistries within its pH 3–11 operating range.

Chemical / Medium NOMEX Compatibility
Mineral acids, low concentration (pH > 3) Good
Alkalis, low to moderate concentration (pH < 11) Good
Aliphatic hydrocarbons (petroleum fractions, mineral oils) Good
Cement slurry / lime slurry Excellent
Fly ash, coke fines, metallurgical dust (liquid suspension) Excellent
Hot water / steam (below 180°C) Good
Aromatic hydrocarbons (benzene, toluene) Moderate, test recommended
Ketones / esters (acetone, ethyl acetate) Moderate, test recommended
Fluoride compounds (trace concentrations) Good, minor erosion only
Concentrated mineral acids (H₂SO₄ >30%, HCl >20%) Not recommended, use PTFE
Strong oxidizing acids (HNO₃, HClO₄) Not recommended, use PTFE
Halogens (Cl₂, F₂, Br₂) Not recommended, use PTFE

Not sure about your fluid? Send us your process fluid composition and temperature. We’ll confirm compatibility, usually within one business day.

Frequently Asked Questions

Continuous operating temperature is 200°C (392°F). Peak short-term temperature is 240°C (464°F). Thermal shrinkage below 240°C is under 1%. At 400°C the fiber decomposes and carbonizes, it does not ignite. The Limiting Oxygen Index is 30.

Yes, NOMEX is DuPont™’s brand name for meta-aramid fiber. “NOMEX filter bag,” “aramid filter bag,” and “meta-aramid filter bag” all describe the same fiber chemistry. The difference that matters in procurement is the fiber source, DuPont™ NOMEX is the recognized quality standard. Generic meta-aramid substitutes exist at lower cost but with less consistent performance. Our bags use DuPont™-sourced fiber. If you’re comparing suppliers, ask that question directly.

Yes. Our five standard sizes (#01–#05) fit all major OEM bag filter housings including Parker, Eaton, Rosedale, and equivalent Asian-market brands. For non-standard housings, send us the basket internal diameter, basket length, and collar style and we’ll confirm fit or quote a custom bag.

Yes, with limitations. NOMEX felt can be back-flushed with clean water or mild compatible detergent. Fine gelatinous or sticky particles tend to permanently blind the felt, making replacement more practical than cleaning. For abrasive solid particulates in lighter slurry duty, back-flushing meaningfully extends service intervals. Contact us with your process fluid for a specific cleaning protocol.

Choose NOMEX if operating temperature is 120–200°C and your chemistry is moderate, pH 3 to 11, no strong oxidizing acids, no halogens, no concentrated mineral acids above 30%. NOMEX delivers comparable thermal performance to PTFE in these conditions at roughly half the unit cost. Choose PTFE if chemistry is aggressive or temperature exceeds 200°C continuously.

MOQ is 50 pieces for standard configurations, 100 pieces for custom sizes or non-standard micron ratings. Free samples are available for qualified industrial buyers, you cover shipping cost, we supply the exact production-spec bag for your in-house testing.

Yes, we are a direct manufacturer and factory. We supply wholesale pricing on volume orders, produce OEM bags to customer specs, and offer private-label programs for established distributors. Contact us with your volume and we’ll provide a wholesale pricing schedule.
