Thanks to the latest advertisement for RO system home use from many famous brands, RO system is becoming more and more popular and known by many people. Though many people have already heard its name, few really understand what it exactly is, how it is composed, and what is working principle of it.

Brief introduction of RO system

This blog aims to do a brief introduction to the RO system, we want to explain the basic knowledge about it, and let people have a concept of the RO system. The key is to help you know whether you need a RO system for your commercial, residential or industrial applications.

What is an RO system?

RO means reverse osmosis, it adopts membrane technology, purifying water through a semi-permeable membrane. With the help of pressure, water passes through the membrane, and most of the impurities can be removed. The RO membrane can be seen as the core of a RO system. It is until now the most effective filtration technology because it can remove the most of contaminants in water.

What are the basic components of a RO system?

Below is a set of RO systems, which are often used in industrial applications. We could easily find out from the picture that the RO system is made of 9 spare parts, which are cartridge filter housing, FRP tank, distributor, RO vessels, RO membrane, flow meter, valve, pressure gauge, and UV disinfection.

Cartridge filter housing

A stainless still filter housing is adopted in the above picture, another common filter housing is usually made of plastic. Different operating conditions have their own advantages.

FRP Tanks

The main parameter is its size, designed pressure, top opening size, bottom opening size, and capacity. Due to various designs for housing, you can contact the staff for accurate data.

RO membrane vessel

RO membrane vessel is designed for protection for RO membrane and is suitable for different commercial and industrial water treatment applications, which can be up to 1200 PSI.

Brother Filtration offers an RO membrane vessel which can accommodate with standard made RO membranes in 2.5″, 4″and 8″.

For RO membranes, we have RO membranes in different standard sizes and different suitable areas. If you have problems when choosing it, you can read another Blog written by us, it introduces the way to select the best RO membrane for you. Or you can go an easier way, just contact us.

How does the RO system work?

How does the RO system work

There are mainly five purification stages in the RO system

Step one: The raw water is passed through the sediment filter and activated carbon filter where all the suspended particles are removed from the sediment filters. The removal of chlorine and other organic chemicals that can lead to an unpleasant smell and taste in the water is removed by activated carbon filters. Both filters enhance the service life of the RO membrane because these impurities caused clogging in the RO membrane.

Step two: After that, the water is passed through the RO membrane under pressure. Here all the dissolved impurities such as heavy metals are removed.

Step three: Water then passes through the UF membrane to remove bacteria and cysts.

Step four: In the conventional RO purification process used in other water purifiers, all the minerals are washed away. To maintain those minerals RO water purifiers have an inbuilt TDS controller.

Step five: The water is allowed to pass through the UV lamp, due to the high-intensity UV rays all the harmful microorganisms are killed that cause many hurtful water-borne diseases.

Where is the RO system used?

RO systems can be widely used in residential, commercial, and industrial applications by adopting different types of RO membranes.

Where are the RO system used
  • Seawater Desalination Reverse Osmosis
  • Industrial Reverse Osmosis
  • Water Store Reverse Osmosis
  • Commercial Reverse Osmosis
  • Residential Reverse Osmosis

RO system is the most popular and effective water filtration method, it adopts advanced semi-permeable technology to conduct a filtration process that is contrary to natural phenomena.

It gains many attractions from different applications, owing to its high efficiency and energy-saving characteristics. By removing the most of contaminants in water, the RO system can offer high-purity water.

Brother Filtration, as a filtration expert, designs and manufactures all kinds of filter products. We have years of filtration experience, providing better filtration solutions for our clients. Of course, we offer RO membranes and relative products for RO systems, if you have any problems with RO or filtration, please feel free to contact us.
